Computed axial tomography (CT), also known as computed tomography, is a sophisticated medical imaging technique that uses X-rays and computers to create detailed images of the internal structures of the body. This examination provides cross-sectional and three-dimensional images of organs, tissues, bones and injuries, enabling doctors to diagnose medical conditions, assess the severity of diseases and guide appropriate treatments.
CT scans are widely used to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, such as trauma, internal injuries, tumours, lung diseases, heart disorders, kidney stones and more. Doctors use CT images to assess the size, shape, density and position of body structures. This information helps in planning treatments, surgeries and invasive procedures.
During the CT scan, the patient is placed on a couch that slides inside an open ring or tunnel. A series of X-rays is directed through the body from different angles, while a computer processes the information to create detailed images. These cross-sectional images allow doctors to accurately visualise the internal anatomy and identify abnormalities or injuries.
Ultrasound examinations are often used to diagnose a wide range of conditions, such as kidney stones, ovarian cysts, tumours, aneurysms, congenital heart problems and more. Ultrasound is also used to monitor the progression of chronic diseases, assess blood flow and guide invasive procedures such as biopsies or aspirations.
A CT scan is a high-precision diagnostic tool that provides a detailed view of the human body. The images provided by CT are essential for early diagnosis, evaluation of medical conditions and monitoring of therapeutic progress. This procedure is particularly useful for complex situations or where other imaging examinations may not be sufficient. Although it involves the use of X-rays, CT scanning is safe and rapid. It represents an important step in the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway, enabling doctors to make informed decisions for the well-being of patients.
